Oath & Ash launches with VoiceOver and fixes on the way

In short

Oath & Ash is a new turn-based card game for iPhone and iPad with VoiceOver support developed alongside blind testers. Early players found three speech and tutorial issues that the developer says will be fixed in version 1.0.2.

In this single-player game, you build a deck and fight through three acts with three different heroes. The opponent announces its next move in advance, nothing is timed, and you keep your progress after a loss.

VoiceOver reads each card as one element with its name, cost, effect, and level. An enemy turn is intended to finish speaking before the game continues, while animations stop when VoiceOver is running. The developer says blind players tested the beta and influenced its design.

Initial AppleVis feedback also shows that the launch version lets VoiceOver speak over the narrator, announces a visual separator, and may go quiet after the first tutorial enemy. The developer has submitted version 1.0.2 to Apple for review with fixes for all three problems. The update is also intended to stop the game opening in German when the device uses an unsupported language.

Oath & Ash is free without advertising, but sells diamonds and an optional add-on inside the app. It requires iOS or iPadOS 17 and has interfaces in English, German, French, Spanish, and Italian, without Norwegian. Players who want to avoid the known issues should check that 1.0.2 is available before starting.
