Rayman Legends Retold adds high contrast; preview finds menu narration

In short

Rayman Legends Retold adds high contrast, colored highlights, and adjustable backgrounds behind gameplay information. A preview also found menu narration, but not at the level of a finished screen reader.

Ubisoft published its accessibility overview on 22 September ahead of the 3 December launch. High contrast can color important gameplay elements and separate them from the background. Highlights can give players, enemies, hazards, rewards, and interactive objects distinct colored outlines. Both features can be used together.

Text can use an alternative sans-serif font, while dark backgrounds behind gameplay information can be set to 50 or 100 percent opacity. Screen shake can be disabled. Gameplay assistance includes automatic shooting during dragon sequences, fewer repeated button presses, and Fairy Blessing, which provides flight and protection from damage in many levels.

Can I Play That? reports that Steve Saylor found menu narration in a preview build, but that it did not meet common screen-reader standards. Menu narration is absent from Ubisoft’s official feature list, and the sources describe no non-visual assistance for navigating the platforming levels themselves. The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
