Everrealm 1.2 expands the screen-reader-driven strategy game

Published:

In short

Everrealm is a free, peaceful browser strategy game designed for screen readers. Version 1.2 links buildings through three new resources while keeping existing saves compatible.

Players develop a realm through six Ages by establishing settlements, researching, and choosing specializations. There is no combat, timer, or fail state. The game also needs no account; progress is stored locally in the browser.

Update 1.2.0 was released on 30 July, but has not previously been covered here. Markets can now produce Trade Goods for Craft Districts, Codex Houses supply Knowledge to Temples, and Estates produce Materials for Aqueducts. A new resource panel presents production, consumption, and status as a labelled definition list. The resources arrive one at a time as the realm develops.

The developer lists support for NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and Orca. All required information is available as text, common actions have keyboard shortcuts, and audio is an optional addition that does not replace screen-reader announcements. This information comes from the project’s own documentation; we did not find an independent complete playthrough with a screen reader.
