Halo: Campaign Evolved has screen narration, but blind review finds major barriers

In short

Halo: Campaign Evolved includes built-in screen narration for menus and some information during play. A test conducted entirely without sight nevertheless found that the campaign requires constant help from a sighted person.

Halo Studios says narration volume and speed can be adjusted. The game also has larger interface text, adjustable navigation points, color controls for markers, and separate volume settings for dialogue, ambient audio, and gameplay sounds. An optional speech-to-text and text-to-speech widget covers voice chat.

SightlessKombat tested the PC version without sight and found that narration starts at first boot, covers menus, and reads some notifications and action prompts. The campaign itself has no audio assistance for navigation or aiming. The reviewer could not find a route through levels or complete the game without constant sighted help, and cinematics have no audio description.

Early access is open, with the standard PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S release set for 28 July. Narration may make setup and some parts more accessible to low-vision players, but the documented lack of non-visual navigation means blind players should not read the feature as support for independent play.
