Sonarush 1.1 adds braille and more precise 3D audio

In short

Sonarush 1.1 now sends game announcements to braille displays through NVDA and JAWS on Windows. A new headphone mode positions sounds in front, beside, and behind the player.

The 3D audio uses a head-related transfer function (HRTF) to model how sounds from different directions reach the ears, and is enabled by default. Pitch still helps distinguish front from back, while volume indicates distance. People playing through speakers can turn it off under the space and directions settings. Follow-up version 1.1.1 fixes an issue where low sounds could seem farther away than they were.

On Windows, every spoken message now also reaches a braille display through NVDA or JAWS. The game also has clearer sounds for reloading and a charged super. Future updates can download during play and install after returning to the main menu; this automatic feature can be disabled. Version 1.1 itself still needs a manual download.

Sonarush is a free Windows and Mac game with no required visuals. Sonar, radar, aiming assistance, and positional audio support six short modes against computer-controlled opponents. Online play is planned but has no date.

Windows still requires 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. The sources disagree about the Mac requirement: the version post says macOS 14 or later, while the download page still says macOS 11. Both require Apple Silicon. The Mac app is not notarized by Apple, so first launch may require “Open Anyway” under Privacy & Security.
